writer of the weekWell done, Johnny, our Writer of the Week!

Here’s a quick peek at some of his writing from this week:

Today we went to the seaside. The train journey took days: I was about to cry, it took so long. Out of nowhere, I could see a golden beach. I think it was called the Lucky Dip beach but I did not care. I just wanted to explore.

When I put my feet on the platform, I felt so happy I was going to explode. My grandad was dragging me along; all I wanted to do was have an adventure.

At twelve o’clock, grandad and grandmother got a deck chair and sat down. Then, without grandad and grandma knowing, I ran up to a weird place…

Congratulations to Natasha, our Star of the Week!

Natasha, who is always friendly and helpful, has outdone herself this week! On top of her responsibilities as JRSO and Change4Life leader, she has given up her playtimes to help Miss West with Class 3’s new display and run the Gedney Shop. In addition, she has produced some beautiful artwork and thoughtful creative writing about The Lucky Dip. Well done, Natasha!

My Adventures by the Sea

Posted by gedneydroveend | Posted in Past pupils | Posted on February 25, 2015

Haven is a great seaside holiday for families. It has play areas, fun fairs, swimming pools and beaches on the site. Their caravans are lovely because you are hidden between groups of caravans. There are normally 5 – 7 groups of caravans which are named after different things.

In fact, I went there a couple of years ago. I went to the one in Yorkshire; it was humongous and it was perched on a cliff, with a beach on the other side. We got our key for the caravan but it was very hard to find. We got in our caravan and tried to put the heating on but it wasn’t working, so we phoned Haven’s reception up and they said that a gas man was coming. When he got to our caravan he said we were turning it the wrong way! We laughed and put the heating on. It was getting much warmer by the minute, so we started to unpack.

When we were done, we went to the entertainments. There were a load of fun and games, so we went to the penny machines for a bit. When we were finished in there, we went to the entertainment to see the show. It was very good and I got a slush puppy. After the entertainment was finished, we went back to our caravan; it was very late and cold. When we got to our caravan in the dark, we saw a fox scavenging through the bins by our caravan. When we got in our caravan, it was very warm because we had left the heating on while we were out.

The next day, me and my mum went to find the way to the beach. The entrance was in someone’s garden. When we got to the beach, we went for a walk and got stuck because we forgot which way we came. There was a cliff, so we tried to climb it, but when we got to the top, there was a vertigo slip. We didn’t go up any more because it was too risky to do, so we went back down. Then we started to find our way back. When we found our way back to the caravan it was lunch time, so we went to a fish and chip shop for lunch.

It was really fun, I would do it again.

Dear Diary…

Inspired by The Lucky Dip short film, Jack wrote this diary entry from the point of view of the main character.

Dear Diary,

Today, we went to the seaside. The train journey took a long and exhausting time; as you can imagine, my excitement was slowly running out… I stomped through the amusement fair and rundown fishing hut (a box with rods in) and came to the start of the pier. I could smell birds fighting the tremendous wind. The sand looked like millions of pound coins glistening in the sunlight. They pulled me past everything and got the seats out from 1973. I wandered off to find a tremendous…

This whole week, Class 3 are creating artwork and text based around the short film, The Lucky Dip. We began today by listening to the soundtrack from the film’s opening, and painting what we could hear. Then, we wrote imaginative sentences to accompany our paintings.

What do you think? Can you guess which piece of art was created by which child?

Today, the whole school took part in activities for China Day. In Class 3, we made shadow puppets and retold the story of the New Year Race.

Then we looked up the meanings for each year. We have two goats, three monkeys, six roosters and two dogs in school today!

We also had delicious Chinese food for lunch- but we ate it so quickly that there was no time to take a photo!

Class 3 said they would like more themed days like this.

Creative sentence challenge!

Posted by gedneydroveend | Posted in Jack P, Jacob C, Jacob R, Max | Posted on February 4, 2015

We each chose an unusual photograph and challenged ourselves to write as many different types of creative sentence as possible. Here are some of the class’ favourites:

The shiny, colossal glass bottle floated on the black, dirty river. The glass bottle was colossal, colossal because it had an island in. the more the bottle sank, the more the bottle filled up with water. Stinky, smelly, dirty river- would you want some in your sink?

Max

Worried, curious, the fisherman got a humungous bite and worried even more. Then he was shocked, shocked to see the bulging eye of a totally overgrown sea bass. The more he looked to discover the truth, the more he started to feel sleepy and dozy. Excited, elated, amazed, the fisherman tugged on his rope as he felt the island shake- was this the base of the island? Some people would think this was crazy; others would think it’s weird.

Jacob R

The more it leaked, the more she cried. Confused, disorientated, sad, she hung up her pouring picture. She mopped up the water silently. (Inside, she was fuming.) Some think she is strange; others say the painting is cursed. The picture was bizarre, bizarre because it leaked.

Jack

The aquatic giant’s back was an island covered in rocks. The fish was trapped in a huge lake. The huge fish was strong, strong because it held two houses. Puzzled, angered, confused, the fish floated in the pool.

Fun in the snow!

School was open as usual today, but that doesn’t mean we missed out on some fun in the snow! From snow sculpture competitions to snowball chases, the whole school played together while the snow lasted.

Emo, comma sentences

0

Posted by gedneydroveend | Posted in Callum H, Callum M, Eloise, Jack P, Jacob C, Jacob R, Johnny, Lani, Matthew C | Posted on February 2, 2015

Today, in guided writing, we practised writing emo, comma sentences. These use an emotion (angry, happy, worried etc) followed by a comma as the opener. Here are some of our best from today:

Frightened, Max and I ran away from Little Legs and Kerry. Matthew M

Startled, one of the sheep left the herd. Sam

Worried, I hid under the table, questioning who was there… Natasha

Delighted, I stroked the dolphin. Matthew C

Zonked, I lay back in my warm bubble bath. Jack

Startled, the goat scrambled away from the huntsman. Jacob C

Curious, Max looked at the thing on the stair. Shane

Surprised, Natasha opened her present- only to find second-hand socks that had had someone’s cheesy feet in before. Lani

Shocked, I gasped as loud as a lion. Callum M

Worried, I ran into my mum’s room. Johnny

Delighted, I opened my bag of Gedneys. Ellie

Delighted, Shane cut his tasty birthday cake up. Callum H

Surprised, I saw my emo, comma sentence on the wall. Jacob R

Multiplication Facts- the fun way!

Learning multiplication facts can be tricky, but not in Class 3! We devised games to make practising fun and taught them to our friends.
