We created an A to Z of words that made us think about something we’ve learned about the Victorians, and used them for inspiration to write our blog posts. Some links are more obvious than others, but all of our posts are original, interesting and the result of our hard work! Enjoy 🙂

As part of our topic, Class 3 designed, made and taste-tested space-themed chocolate treats. Can you tell by our expressions how yummy they were?

Our day at the Snow Centre

As part of our Frozen Kingdom topic, we took part in a thrilling adventure at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead.

When we arrived, we were given our ski boots and skis for our first activity. Heavy and tight, clumpy and painful, the boots were essential kit. Next, we chose a helmet and listened to our instructors. Photo 24-11-2015, 11 30 10 Photo 24-11-2015, 11 34 20 Photo 24-11-2015, 11 34 15 Photo 24-11-2015, 11 31 03 Photo 24-11-2015, 11 31 02 Photo 24-11-2015, 11 31 00

Skiing was fun but hard: the triangle position and walking in the skis made our legs tired and, if you angled the skis in the wrong way, you might even end up going backwards! Lewie and Jack R were naturals, but everyone did well with this new sport.

After lunch, we put on different boots because it was time to try snowboarding! The instructor showed us how to strap into the boards and slow ourselves down once we started moving. We all had a try and- apart from a few people landing on their bottoms- we picked it up quite quickly. It wasn’t long before we were riding the boards down a slope and even doing some tricks! Jack P, Callum M, Finley and Max made it look easy by mastering it straight away but Elisha, Amber, Jake and Matthew soon followed in their tracks. It was great fun!

Our final activity was sledging. This was the noisiest and busiest activity!

Everyone had a try, and it was certainly hilarious to watch! Foam snowmen were set up at the bottom of the slope for target practice and Jacob C, Jack P, Finley and Charlie took them down on their first go. Jacob R floated down the slope like a snow king; Ethan high-fived passers-by; Jack A was attacked by a gang of inflatable doughnuts and Lani span (and screamed) all the way down! Miss West was particularly amused with Johnny’s emergency exit over the barrier… Callum H tried a bobsleigh technique with Max and Callum M, ending up in a tangle of limbs against the barrier. Luckily, the only injury was aching tummies from laughing so hard!

We all enjoyed our day at the Snow Centre, and were disappointed when it was time to leave! We tried to decide which activity was our favourite- but we had a huge amount of fun with all of them!

Ryan said, “Sledging was my favourite because we got to knock down snowmen.”

“My favorite was skiing,” said Ellie. “Even though it was challenging, I’d like to do it again.”

Chris enjoyed the sledging most. He said, “On most of my runs, I fell down and it was funny for other people to watch!”

To, too or two?

Today, we looked at the difference between to, too and two, which are often confused- even by grown ups!

We learned that:

to is used with a destination or verb (I am going to the park; I want to play down the park)

too is used “as well” or to emphasise (I enjoyed it too; The food was too spicy for me)

two is a number (I had two puddings)

We wrote our own sentences using to, too or two. Did we use them correctly?

Frozen Kingdom

To kick off this term’s topic, today we were talking about icebergs. We held a giant ball of ice and felt how cold it was, and then looked at some pictures of stunning icebergs taken by explorers and travellers to the North and South poles.

Here are some of our fantastic descriptions:

Above, the iceberg is a mass of crystals. But below it is a wisp of emotion. From above, the iceberg looks like an elegant cloud; below, you can’t see its features in the blackening water. Above, there are jagged edges- but below, in the inspiring depths, it looks so smooth and thick. Jacob R

Slowly, the penguin populated iceberg drifted across the vast ocean. The more it drifted, the more it eroded. Frozen and cold, old and ancient, the iceberg homes hundreds of penguins and other sea birds. Deliberately, the graceful giant melted into the great sea. Jacob C

The iceberg, which is very big and looks like a ship riding across the ocean, has a lot of tiny spikes. Also, you could probably ride a ship under it. The iceberg, which looks like a ship, is very tall: it might have got together because of the freezing ocean waves crashing together. In the air, at the back, is a blank kind of thing that you could slip off easily. Jack R

The shark-like iceberg is floating around in peace. It’s like a shark: it’s scary, but, it is amazing! The detail is so cool: it’s like a shark holding onto a massive ice lump. The shark-like iceberg floats around whilst the carpet trails behind him. Elisha

The iceberg, which is swimming up into the sky, has a shark-like pose. The ice upon the water, which is so cold, has so much detail. The Arctic, where polar bears live, is also known as the North pole. Lani

The iceberg, which is a big slide for penguins, is floating across the Antarctic ocean. The cloud, which looks like a massive iceberg, flies across the sky. Johnny

The iceberg, which is forming like a puzzle, is wonderful to look at. The water, which is so cold and shiny, is clear. Max

The iceberg, which looks like a mashed potato, is partly underwater. The sky, which has different shades of blue, has a very amount of clouds. Callum H

Tall Tales…

1

Posted by gedneydroveend | Posted in Elisha, Jack P | Posted on October 22, 2015

We all know it’s wrong to tell lies, but a tall tale can be very amusing!

Today we played a game where we had to use certain, randomly-chosen items to escape a dangerous situation. What would you do if you were chased up a tree by a bear? How would you escape armed only with some lipstick, a Jenga game piece and some of Mr T’s bling? Or a pantomime horse costume?

Dear Diary…

What I am now writing is gross but quite funny! Also, it is dangerous. Never do this at home!

So, it started like this: a bear was chasing me, so, I ran up a tree, but, it was a grizzly brown bear so it can climb trees. It wasn’t the best place to hide… It was a girl bear so it saw my bright red lipstick and, just to get her away, I threw it down to her; she was delighted to have it. She came back but, of course, I did not have any more lipstick so I said, “What do you want?” and she said, “I want to play Jenga!” So I got a Jenga stick and shaped it like an arrow and threw it at her bottom. She screamed and ran home.

Next came her mother- furious! I said, “Why are you furious?” and she said, “Because you have hurt my daughter!” Then she saw Mr T’s jewellery and said, “I want that jewellery!” So I gave her it. And I never saw the bear family again!

Elisha

So I’m trapped up a tree with a bear attacking me… Harry Potter’s owl (Hedwig) flew with a pantomime horse outfit and a tin of Alphabetti Spaghetti. I poured the the spaghetti into the horse costume and dropped it- and he bit it! He didn’t like it much, so, convinced he had eaten the horse, he walked away.
