Our day at the Snow Centre

As part of our Frozen Kingdom topic, we took part in a thrilling adventure at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead.

When we arrived, we were given our ski boots and skis for our first activity. Heavy and tight, clumpy and painful, the boots were essential kit. Next, we chose a helmet and listened to our instructors. Photo 24-11-2015, 11 30 10 Photo 24-11-2015, 11 34 20 Photo 24-11-2015, 11 34 15 Photo 24-11-2015, 11 31 03 Photo 24-11-2015, 11 31 02 Photo 24-11-2015, 11 31 00

Skiing was fun but hard: the triangle position and walking in the skis made our legs tired and, if you angled the skis in the wrong way, you might even end up going backwards! Lewie and Jack R were naturals, but everyone did well with this new sport.

After lunch, we put on different boots because it was time to try snowboarding! The instructor showed us how to strap into the boards and slow ourselves down once we started moving. We all had a try and- apart from a few people landing on their bottoms- we picked it up quite quickly. It wasn’t long before we were riding the boards down a slope and even doing some tricks! Jack P, Callum M, Finley and Max made it look easy by mastering it straight away but Elisha, Amber, Jake and Matthew soon followed in their tracks. It was great fun!

Our final activity was sledging. This was the noisiest and busiest activity!

Everyone had a try, and it was certainly hilarious to watch! Foam snowmen were set up at the bottom of the slope for target practice and Jacob C, Jack P, Finley and Charlie took them down on their first go. Jacob R floated down the slope like a snow king; Ethan high-fived passers-by; Jack A was attacked by a gang of inflatable doughnuts and Lani span (and screamed) all the way down! Miss West was particularly amused with Johnny’s emergency exit over the barrier… Callum H tried a bobsleigh technique with Max and Callum M, ending up in a tangle of limbs against the barrier. Luckily, the only injury was aching tummies from laughing so hard!

We all enjoyed our day at the Snow Centre, and were disappointed when it was time to leave! We tried to decide which activity was our favourite- but we had a huge amount of fun with all of them!

Ryan said, “Sledging was my favourite because we got to knock down snowmen.”

“My favorite was skiing,” said Ellie. “Even though it was challenging, I’d like to do it again.”

Chris enjoyed the sledging most. He said, “On most of my runs, I fell down and it was funny for other people to watch!”

Signing the log

On Monday, we went to Ferry Meadows to do something called Geocaching. Geocaching is a fun, worldwide treasure hunt. Holbeach St Marks joined us to go geocaching.

First, we approached our way to the bus which would take us to Ferry Meadows.

Soon after, we arrived and it didn’t take us long to start sniffing out caches. With our heads held high and phones in hands, we tracked down our first geocache!

Excited, we carried on searching. Our destination was approximately 200 feet away (all the way there we only heard Lani complaining her legs hurt).

By 12:00pm, we had found about six geocaches and had started feasting on our food.

With a stomach full of food, we carried on searching… and searching… until it was time to head back to the bus.

Forty-five minutes later, we were all tired but, most of all, we were home.

David Walliams

David+Walliams+Bluewater+Book+Signing+cSRGyTU3duxlDavid Edward Walliams, known as David Walliams, is an English comedian, actor, television presenter and judge. He is known by some children and most adults for being on Little Britain. He was born on 20th August 1971.

My favourite author is the humorous David Walliams, because his books are horrendously amazing. He’s a really talented man with a great sense of humour.

My favourite book is Gangsta Granny because it was the first book I read of his. I especially like this book because of the relationship between Gangsta Granny and her grandson. He also has six more books that he has written: Boy in the Dress, Mr Stink, Billionaire Boy, Awful Auntie, Rat Burger and Demon Dentist. These books are very good but not as brilliant as Gangsta Granny. He’s sold over four million books.

David Walliams, not long ago, pressed the golden buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent. The golden buzzer act was Lorraine Bowen and her crumble song. It was quite funny. Crazy, he is the number one judge on Britain’s Got Talent. As well as that, he is the award winning, best judge on the Brit Awards.

David Walliams, the life-changing man, swam in the Thames for Sportsrelief, the charity event. He swam along 140 miles of the Thames. Hundreds of people cheered the star on as he began his challenge in the Gloucestershire town – where the waters temperature was 15 degrees, currently colder than the English Channel. David Walliams was given a special award in recognition of his sporting efforts for charity.

Some people may agree that David Walliams is fantastic at nearly everything (not everything). This text is why David Walliams is my favourite author:-

I really like David Edward Walliams because he’s one of the best authors ever, I think.

Remembering a great author.

Last year, Class 3 chose “Truckers” by Terry Pratchett as their class novel. We really enjoyed it and Miss West was very happy that many of the children continued reading the rest of the Bromeliad trilogy. Terry Pratchett is Miss West’s favourite author because his books are so clever, funny and thought-provoking.

Tomorrow would have been Sir Terry Pratchett’s 67th birthday. All over the world, fans (including Miss West) will be wearing black hats in remembrance.

Natasha wrote this beautiful message for Terry which, through the magic of Twitter, Miss West was able to share with Terry’s daughter, Rhianna.

For weeks, my friends had been telling me how much fun roller-skating was. I wasn’t so sure. I had never tried it before and didn’t have any roller-skates.

One day, my friend (Shane) asked if I wanted to go. I asked my mum if it was alright for us to go. She said, “As long as I don’t have to skate,” (she hates it) “then no problem.” My brother William also wanted to try.

So, Friday came and we went to the Peele Leisure Centre to our first Roller Disco. There were loads of people there. The music was very loud and there were disco lights. We joined the queue to pay and hired our bots. I sat down to put my boots on. So far so good.

Then I stood up.

I felt taller but not very safe. My feet went from under me and I ended up sitting down again with a thud. My mum laughed and helped me up again and pulled me into the disco room. It looked easy, so off I went.

After five minutes, it felt as though I fell over about five thousand times. After going round once it felt like I fell over millions by millions of times!

Later on in the day, the DJ announced that we were going to play Bull Dog. Bull Dog is a game where a few people start off it and they have to try and tig everyone and, when they are tug, they are out.

Surprisingly, I wasn’t the first one out!

A few long moments after Bull Dog, we all sat down and caught out breath. Then we got straight back in.

As the session had nearly come to an ened, I had realised that I was better at skating and I didn’t fall over as much.

My favourite toy

My favourite toy is my Nintendo Wii. There are lots of games for it.

The Wii is electric and is plugged into a television. There is a Wii remote, which allows people to choose what they want to play on the Wii.

I like the Wii because I can play against other people. I like Mario and Sonic 2012 Olympic Games. Sometimes I win, especially if I play against the computer.

Congratulations to Natasha, our Star of the Week!

Natasha, who is always friendly and helpful, has outdone herself this week! On top of her responsibilities as JRSO and Change4Life leader, she has given up her playtimes to help Miss West with Class 3’s new display and run the Gedney Shop. In addition, she has produced some beautiful artwork and thoughtful creative writing about The Lucky Dip. Well done, Natasha!

My Adventures by the Sea

1

Posted by gedneydroveend | Posted in Past pupils | Posted on February 25, 2015

Haven is a great seaside holiday for families. It has play areas, fun fairs, swimming pools and beaches on the site. Their caravans are lovely because you are hidden between groups of caravans. There are normally 5 – 7 groups of caravans which are named after different things.

In fact, I went there a couple of years ago. I went to the one in Yorkshire; it was humongous and it was perched on a cliff, with a beach on the other side. We got our key for the caravan but it was very hard to find. We got in our caravan and tried to put the heating on but it wasn’t working, so we phoned Haven’s reception up and they said that a gas man was coming. When he got to our caravan he said we were turning it the wrong way! We laughed and put the heating on. It was getting much warmer by the minute, so we started to unpack.

When we were done, we went to the entertainments. There were a load of fun and games, so we went to the penny machines for a bit. When we were finished in there, we went to the entertainment to see the show. It was very good and I got a slush puppy. After the entertainment was finished, we went back to our caravan; it was very late and cold. When we got to our caravan in the dark, we saw a fox scavenging through the bins by our caravan. When we got in our caravan, it was very warm because we had left the heating on while we were out.

The next day, me and my mum went to find the way to the beach. The entrance was in someone’s garden. When we got to the beach, we went for a walk and got stuck because we forgot which way we came. There was a cliff, so we tried to climb it, but when we got to the top, there was a vertigo slip. We didn’t go up any more because it was too risky to do, so we went back down. Then we started to find our way back. When we found our way back to the caravan it was lunch time, so we went to a fish and chip shop for lunch.

It was really fun, I would do it again.
